[ liviana osti ] cuore

has anyone ever watched the movie from hell? it's one of my faves - and not just because johnny depp is in it, though i do admit that's the reason i watched it in the first place. it's a movie based on the unsolved jack the ripper killings in london during the late 1800s. and it takes one of the more conspiratorial views on who may have been the notorious murderer of whitechapel. dun dun dunnnn!

in any case, this wine decanter/water carafe by liviana osti reminds me of the film... specifically a scene in the home of sir william gull (played by ian holm). i must say, the visuals of that movie were quite creeeeeeepy... now i wanna go watch it o_O

[ todd von bastiaans and bryan mccarthy ] pancake floor pillows

so, two weekends ago it was richie rich's bday and we went out clubbing in dc w/ a the whole crew. and then, afterwards, whilst on the way home, richie rich called for cheesesteak delivery. which we then promptly demolished before passing OUT at tighef's place. wondrous.

the next morning we woke up and decided to go eat at florida avenue grill. and. uhm. OMG. best hot cake i've EVER....EVER had. it was fumongous, first of all. and second of all, it was sitting in a plate of buttery goodness. yum. the way breakfast is meant to be eaten. slathered in butter.

these floor pillows by todd von bastiaans and bryan mccarthy remind me of those delicious hot cakes. not only do the pillows look yummy, but they look super comfy too!

[ dust furniture ] stacked cabinets

I HAVE BEEN GONE FOR SO LONG. so for that, i am sorry, faithful readers. had a CRAZY few weeks - busy at work, busy on the weekends, busy busy busy busy BUSY. wah! so anywho, i've also been trying to get back into going to the movies all the time. we went to the midnight showing of hunger games (WHICH WAS AWESOME AND I WANNA GO SEE IT 10 MORE TIMES). but i still havent seen the lorax or the vow (yes, chickflick) or the woman in black (outta theaters now i think) or a LOT of other movies. and we all know how much of a movie maniac i am.

speaking of the lorax, don't these cabinets by dust furniture remind you of dr. seuss. saw these over on design milk, who tweeted that they remind her of tim burton. but the longer i look, the more seuss i see. do you agree?

[ pablo matteoda ] sharky tea infuser

i've been really into teavana tea lately. i'm all about homeopathic hollistic awesomeness so - say - when i had a bad cold this winter, i drank some teavana tea to help with the congestion, coughing, etc. ALSO, they have really great anti-nausea tea for hangovers (i'm serious, ginger ginseng something or other aka awesome in a cup).

anyway, my teavana teaball, as functional as it is, is nowhere as cool as this sharky infuser by pablo matteoda. you can buy it here but its out of stock at the mo'. PRETTY cool though right?! duh-nuh.... duh-nuh.... DUN-NUH DUN-NUH DUN-NUH!

ok anyway i'm actually delirious cus i've been up since way too early for me (aka 7am) and i literally need to take a nap before i do anymore of this (click the link, cus i literally can't even describe it) today.

[ chris yoon ] kleenex desktop companion

temperatures have dipped down into the 30s and you know what that means. yup - snow flurries. so far, none here in columbia but me and jen unnz are going to be heading down to CP today for some various errands and it's apparently snowing there now!

a few months behind on this but hey - now that the weathers cold again - it seems quite relevant to share. design student chris yoon re-packaged kleenex with designers as the target audience.
Beyond simply decorating a Kleenex box, I wanted to think through how the product (the tissues) could interact with the packaging once it was open, which eventually led to a typewriter loaded with paper, a whale spraying from his blowhole, a cottage emitting smoke, and any number of executions that fit that idea.
as a designer myself, I WANT KLEENEX TO ALWAYS LOOK LIKE THIS. hahaha so basically, he totally succeeded. great idea, great execution.

[ black + blum ] time square

i never use my calendars or agendas to write down plans. i'll start using it when it's new and then slowly but surely, the notes on there become few and far between. in high school, it was the same with writing down homework (though i'd somehow still remember to do it all and get it all done for the most part). even so, i always remember my plans for any given day. it's also the reason i'm social media queen. i can multitask to the nth degree.

even though i'm bad at writing down plans i DO love this clock by design duo black + blum. and if i ever have a work-from-home office (ideally, i'll be working from home cus i have my own bi'ness), i want this right by my desk so i can put my plans on there. and doodle. lots of doodling.

[ dan golden ] cb2 collection

yesterday i decided i wanted to make 만두국 (mandoo guk) with the 만두 (mandoo) that unnz & her family made. i didn't really have all of the right ingredients but it still turned out delicious if i do say so myself. i loveee to cook and now that mama & baba are on vacay, i have the kitchen to myself (and my mom's self hahaha). so we get to cook yummies all the time. i love it!

i wish there was a full set of these plates by dan golden. the two plates and tray here are part of a collection he designed for cb2 (related to crate&barrel). i WANT. but seriously i want like.... 6-8 different versions of this plate for my future house. it'd be fun to do bowls as well and come up with ways to represent things like soup or ice cream sundae.

[ 6 picks ] turquoise & gold

it's january but the weather still hasn't made up its mind which season it wants to be. rainy in the high 50s one day, sunny and 28 the next, snowing and 30 another day. i don't even know what i'm supposed to be wearing half the time w/ the weather all crazy like this!

makes me long for a warm early spring day, foggy mornings and golden rays of sunlight peeking through the trees. when it's still sorta cool out and the air has a blue tinge to it almost. which is probably why i've been attracted to lots of blue/yellow art/design pieces lately. so i gathered them up and put em here for you~

ok so i haven't blogged in a REALLY long time. working retail + holiday season = walking zombie sahar. soOo! sorry bout that devoted readers! but now that the holiday season is over (for the most part) and it's the NEW YEAR, i'm here with a new entry - finally.

spent new year's eve at my big brutha howie's house. me and jen unnz picked up butterscotch vodka, apple juice, and vodka-infused whipped cream. oh the alcoholic butterbeer-ness of it all. hahaha but seriously it was delicious. idea totally stolen from shaundawg.

so here are 6 picks all decked out for new year's. amazing time with amazing people <3 and the next day was a less-than-amazing time with amazing pho. go figure ^_~
